Despite lacking Malta's no.1 CoD4 team, project EVERSIO, the CoD4 tournament at ClubLAN still provided great competivity, with several of Malta's most prominent clans in attendance, including Infernal Gamers, Xynoptic, teamEXG and dOUBTFUL.
dOUBTFUL proved that they can be very much of a threat to the rest of the CoD4 players, as the team only recently shifted over to the CoD4 scene from CoD2. teamEXG failed to replicate their online results at the LAN after losses to both Xynoptic and dOUBTFUL. Infernal Gamers played with Beast as a merc after m1ke left the team, yet this was not enough to stop them from defeating Xynoptic in the final 2:1.
Final Standings:
1st) Infernal Gamers (Nekklo, Zappy, Beast, Gas, AnGrA)
2nd) Xynoptic (Murderer, Sam, Poker, Crusher, Janni, Muxi)
3rd) dOUBTFUL (Furia, bbone, Xmit, Kata, escobar)
4th) teamEXG (Zoid, Desert, Skullz, Pullu, Xejd)
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Tournament
Prizes:
1st Place: Sharkoon Rush Headset + Logitech Extreme Joystick
2nd Place: Data Castle Mobile Rack + Northbridge Cooler + 1-day pass @ Hackers
It had been a while since a LAN organised a tournament for an RTS. C&C3 used to be quite a popular game back in the day, and competition was fierce with several good players in the scene. ClubLAN'09 decided to bring the game back into the spotlight, albeit in 1on1 fashion instead of 2v2, and it was definitely a very successful tournament. BIX from eversio reasserted his dominance, yet not without close confrontations from the likes of fellow teammate Kamadake and Xynoptic's Crusher as well as new comer to the C&C3 scene: mikk (myself!).
Final Standings:
1st) EVERSIO BIX
2nd) Xyno Crusher
3rd) mikk
4th) EVERSIO kamadake
FIFA 09 Tournament
Prizes:
1st Place: Zoppa II 2.1 MultiMedia Speakers + Logitech Precision Gamepad
2nd Place: Data Castle Mobile Rack + Thrust Predator Joystick + Northbridge Cooler + 1-day pass @ Hackers
FIFA is a mainstay at LANs, and it always attracts loads of signups, unfortunately, most of those signups end in no shows. The FIFA tournament at ClubLAN was no different, yet the better players prevailed in the end, and the later rounds proved interesting matches, with Crusher taking on an admin: ice, ending in a victory to the prize hogging hunk (aka Crusher :P).
Final Standings:
1st) Xyno Crusher
2nd) Ice
GRID Tournament
Prizes:
1st Place: Sharkoon Rush Headset + Logitech Extreme Joystick
2nd Place: Data Castle Mobile Rack + Northbridge Cooler + 1-day pass @ Hackers
The only other GRID tournament at LAN was at LANnihilation quite some time ago; ClubLAN always holds some sort of racing game competition; 07 was Need for Speed: Most Wanted; 08 was Trackmania, 09 was GRID. The Tournament was very well attended, with several attendees coming over just for that particular tournament.
Final Standings:
1st) [SG] Icevid
Quake 3 Arena Tournament
Prizes:
1st Place: Mionix Saiph 3200
2nd Place: Northbridge Cooler + 1-day pass @ Hackers
Deathmatch is never a good competitive gamemod, yet it provided good fun in an all admin final.
Final Standings:
1st) BIX
2nd) Kamadake
3rd) FragMagnet
4th) Equinox
CounterStrike: Source 2v2 Tournament
Prizes:
1st Place: 2x Sharkoon Fireglider gaming mouse + 2x Zoppa II speakers
2nd Place: 2x Sharkoon Rush Mat, x2 Data Castle Mobile Rack + 2x 1-day pass @ Hackers
2v2 is not the prime gamemod of CSS, and in my opinion, makes the game pretty boring and bland, but the CSS players thought otherwise, as turnout was great, and the tournament proved to be a great distraction from the usual CoD. One of the very few seriously competitive CSS clans: Xynoptic, had a few players over at the LAN, which they dominated with relative ease, except against the admin team of cG.
Final Standings:
1st) Xyno 1
2nd) Xyno 2
3rd) club-gaming
